Before You Go!

Need to Know

By Debra Scifo - April 22, 2025

Whether you're a first-time or seasoned user of a private car service, there are a few key things you should know to ensure a safe and reliable experience. A credible private car service will display its credentials prominently. These five items are essential for the safety and security of passengers, and any reputable commercial transportation provider will ensure these requirements are met and kept current.

1. PUC Stamp
A PUC (Public Utilities Commission) stamp is a general authorization for businesses operating in Colorado. It is required for motor carriers that transport people or property for hire on public highways. The PUC issues these permits to ensure carriers comply with all state regulations and standards. The PUC permit is located on the lower corner of the passenger side of the front windshield. The current date is prominently displayed on the permit.

2. Luxury Limousine Permit (LL)
This is a specific type of PUC permit required for luxury limousine services. It must be displayed on both the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle. The permit number serves as an identifier for regulated transportation providers.

3. Livery License Plates
Livery plates are issued to vehicles used for for-hire transportation and are key to ensuring proper regulation and insurance coverage.

4. Commercial Transportation Insurance
This insurance protects passengers, drivers, and vehicles. A reputable service should have commercial insurance coverage, and proof of that coverage should be easily accessible.

DriveDenver is insured by Progressive Insurance, and proof of insurance is in the seat pocket behind the driver for passenger viewing.

5. DIA Permit (for Denver International Airport)
A DIA permit is required for commercial transportation providers operating at Denver International Airport. It ensures that each vehicle is bonded, insured, and authorized to access pick-up and drop-off zones. The permit enhances safety, clarifies liability, and confirms compliance with airport regulations. The DIA permit is displayed as a sticker or transponder on the upper inside corner of the driver's side windshield.

These five credentials ensure that the provider you've chosen has taken all necessary steps to offer a safe, secure, and compliant transportation experience.
